I think I have had blogging writer's block--as soon as I start trying to type something out I get stuck on what to say exactly. So I'll just start with the basics...
This quilt was designed for the Threadbias quilt contest back in June and the design was inspired by my visit to my hometown in Texas. I wanted to make a quilt block that looked like a flower with layers of petals. Each block finishes at 16.5" x 16.5" and the size of the quilt is 57" x 75". The fabric used was "Wallflowers" by Allison Harris.
After quilting what seemed about 10 gazillion lines of loopy L's, I finished the binding up yesterday. I think finishing this quilt was a good way to start the new year because it really represents this last year of trying to face my fears and just throw it all out there...do you know what I mean?
My biggest problem, I think, is doubt, or negative self-talk or whatever you want to call it. I have an almost insane fear of rejection or failure, and usually try to stay away from situations which cause me to get that scary-vulnerable feeling. But I know that I can't sit around do nothing because I'm afraid of failing everything. So this year I pushed through my anxiety, started a blog, and entered the design contest. I can't say I'm completely over my fear but I'm taking baby steps.
So my continued resolutions of 2014 are to stop doubting myself, stop worrying about everything, and just try to create things that I love.

Cristina-You have nothing to worry about! Your quilt is gorgeous and your pictures turned out great! I find that if you just try and be yourself when you write your blog, then it isn't too hard to come up with things to say. Don't worry too much about it, and just pretend you are talking with a friend! I look forward to seeing what you will create (and write) this year! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is gorgeous! You are very talented. Looking forward to seeing all of the beauty you create in 2014!
ReplyDeleteCristina, this is such a cute block. I love how the petals have those little points. So prefect. A thousand loopy l's would have me going crazy (or I should say loopy) but it was so worth while. Look how scrumptious this quilt is!
ReplyDeleteI don't know anyone who can honestly say they don't fear rejection or have anxiety about going in to new situations. But being brave means coming out the other side having grown and accomplished and it's pretty awesome! Sometimes scary is good. I mean, if you could go back in time, you'd be less scared, because you knew it would work but you'd also feel less achievement, because you already knew it would work. With the fear comes the joy. At least that's what I tel myself! Lol.
Happy new year!

That's a great pattern for those Allison Harris prints - it feels very appropriate for her fabric somehow :D It looks fantastic - love the loopy quilting. I haven't tried doing it like that yet, but I'm going to one of these days.
