A Pretty Painted Shelf

My dining area has been pretty drab since moving in (almost a year ago) and I recently decided to get busy on the space. I knew I wanted a place to display all of my pretty china, and I didn’t want to shell out a lot of money, so I decided to paint this very dark brown shelf into a light aqua color.



I am actually amazed by how pretty it turned out--it’s perfect for all my tea cups.



When it was all done, me and my daughter were literally jumping with excitement and decided to go shopping to see if we could find anything else for the shelf. When we got into the car my daughter, who is only 6 said, “Mom, you know when we showed Dad the shelf, and he was like ‘oh, that’s nice’ and I he didn’t even act excited or anything about it!” She is definitely my daughter. We went to the local antique/home décor shop and found this beautiful vintage tea set with bluebirds on it, and I couldn’t resist buying it.



For the wall I went to Etsy and purchased a pretty mason jar print from The Wheatfield, and a handstamped vintage spoon that says “Cream and Sugar” from Pretty Vintage Love.



To mount the spoon, I spray painted the frame and used Modge Podge to glue some scrapbook paper to the inside of the back of frame. I then drilled two very tiny holes through the back and pulled a piece of jewelry wire through to secure the spoon. Overall, this project cost me about $12.



To finish it off, I hung up some vintage potholders and a stack of applique teacups.
   
I couldn't be happier with how it all turned out!!
